Daily Lenten Reflections..Thirtieth Sixth Day :"One Nation Under God"
Saturday, March 28, 2015
One
nation
under God!
Ezekiel
speaks of ‘gathering, uniting, bringing together’ of the people of Israel.
“One
nation, one Prince, one Shepherd, one Law and law-giver, and one Covenant that
is everlasting” all these speak of One United people of God who is guided, led
and protected by Yahweh.
United they stand, divided they fall. They are
rallying around God who is love and so they will be God’s people and Yahweh
will be their God.
In the Gospel we see the Chief priests and Pharisees
rallying or gathering or uniting themselves as well.
One way is out of fear and hate and the
other is out of love.
We see the Pharisees ‘gathering’ or ‘rallying’ out of
fear, hatred, vengeance and anger against Jesus.
We see the Islamic State
radicals uniting or gathering in the name of a false ideology that is grown out
of fear and hate against Christians and the Western culture.
They go around
burning and desecrating churches and everything sacred to the Christians.
As
one of the Bishops of Orthodox Christians in Iraq says, “They may take away
everything, but they cannot take away our God”.
The people who have been loved,
gathered, united, fostered, taken cared of and shepherded by the ONE God has a
Deeper Unity that no amount of hate nor violence can take away.
The simple
reason is that it is God in charge of His people.
As we enter the Holy Week let
us rally behind the One who is Love and whose love is everlasting.
