Prodigal!
A Belgian Theologian
Jacques LeClercq says, “ Everyone of us has swine in our souls.
One’s job can
be “herding swine” if one has no other aim than to earn a living joylessly; it
can be something completely different, but one has to return to the Father for
that.”
God desires of his or her children to be happy, joyful and fulfilled. We
may end up herding swine by our choice and desperate need for survival.
The
Prodigal Father wants to lavish his love upon his children no matter where the
children end up wandering.
Micah the prophet says, “ God who delights in
clemency; and will again have compassion on us, will tread underfoot all of our
guilt; and will cast into the depths of the sea all of our sins.”
How often we
see Jesus’ extravagant, prodigal love, compassion, and mercy overflowing to sinners
in the Gospels?
Do you want to
live herding swine or live joyfully serving the God of your life?
While
reflecting on our own ‘swines in our souls’ let us not lose hope for God indeed
wills to ‘cast into the depths of the sea all of our sins’.
Let us emerge from
our joyless living to joyful living and return to God for God is indeed waiting
to greet us with ‘calf, robe and ring’.
Now what are you waiting for?
