Our God indeed is a
God of surprises. At the end of our life we shall be judged on love and love
alone. Our efforts at becoming holy, the rosaries, the novenas, the
pilgrimages, devotions, piety, none of these matter if you are blind to our
neighbor and ignore the poor and the needy. No marks for these ‘good works’ of
ours. He insists on one thing your life is love – compassionate love in action.
God is willing to overlook our sins but when it comes to loving our neighbor
and caring for him or her there is no compromise. We are held accountable for
our choice in life. Love is the true law, love is the language, love is the
action, love is ministry, love is all that matters for God. It is not the
fasting and abstinence, things you gave up for lent but what matters most is
our care for the poor on our doorsteps. A hard teaching to follow indeed
in a culture where there are no rules, no breaks, no consequences, no clear
transparency, no accountability for bad behavior. If during this lent we are
tempted from all levels, beware of it and then run to the Lord of life in order
to gain strength and confidence to pursue love’s way- the one and only way that
will bring you home to God.
God Bless you
always!
