“The souls of the just are in the hands of God” (Wisdom 3:1).
So we believe all our beloved departed are one with God where “no torment shall
touch them”. As we fondly remember all our departed brothers and sisters on
November 2, the feast of All Souls Day, we want to specially remember two of
our La Salette priests who died this year Fr. Henry Brodeur and Fr. Fernand
Cassista along with numerous benefactors, volunteers and friends of La Salette
family. May they find eternal rest and joy in our Heavenly Father. In all our
masses we will remember all the souls of the faithful departed.
During this month we also pause
to give Thanks as a nation on November 27, Thanksgiving Day and especially to
offer praise and honor to our God who is the Source of all our blessings and
gifts. We will hold a special Mass of Thanksgiving at 10 am in the Shrine
Church for all your families. There is no better way to thank God than
Eucharist which means ‘thanksgiving’.
On
Thanksgiving Day at 5 in the afternoon we officially open the 2014 Christmas
Festival of Lights with the theme “Christ light of life” (John 8:12). We invite
you and your families to celebrate with us this season of hope, joy and peace
by participating in the various liturgical services as well as in the
festivities. We have the expanded the International Crèche museum with over 900
new displays donated by a generous benefactor of the Shrine. With this new
addition we have the biggest display of Crèches in New England. Please bring
your children and make it an opportunity to educate them as to how Christ is
received in many nations around the world. The displays are open every day
during the season. Please refer to the website for more details of the
Christmas Festival of lights.
On a personal note, I would like you to
please pray for our priests who are ill and recuperating especially Fr. Gerry
Boulanger, who is also the Co-Director of the Shrine, and Fr. Dick Deslile who
has been in the nursing home for a while. I want to offer special thanks to
Anna Rae Kelly who organized the International Lay Fast for Priests who had
people from over 50 countries participating in it. Your prayers are gratefully
appreciated. So please come to the Shrine, to pray, to renew, to heal and to
give thanks to God through our Blessed Mother Our Lady of La Salette. Our Lady
of La Salette, pray for us who have recourse to you.
