Day 2: Choose Life
The Coptic Christians who were
captured by the ISIS radicals faced
a terrifying choice.
They had to choose
life or death just because they were Christians.
They chose life, the Big Life
that Jesus promised to those who follow Him.
Beshir Kamel, brother of the two
Kamel brothers killed, said that his brothers are a “Badge of honor to
Christianity”.
The whole village is praising them for their choice. We hear
from Moses, “choose life, you and your descendants will live”.
Jesus sets before
us conditions for discipleship:
“Deny yourself, take up your cross daily and
follow me”.
How clear are we about the choices we are making daily?
Does our
choice reflect our total obedience to Jesus and His way of life?
It is easy to
compromise and go through life without making any commitments at all.
Life with
God, for God and in God calls for at times a harrowing agony of discernment and
choice for we face constantly conflicts and inconsistencies daily.
The promise of Jesus is our only hope,
“Anyone who loses his life for my sake will save it”.
There is always a
temptation to settle, to take it easy, and eventually forfeit our true self to
something other than God.
Lent is a time to look at life, our choices closely
and have the courage to choose the Higher road and the Big Life.
Are you ready
to make that fundamental option for Life?
God of life and death, teach us to
hold out for a deeper life, Big Life that will lead us to rest in communion
with you.
