34th Day of Lent : April 7, 2014 "Go and sin no more"

34th Day of Lent:
         April 7, 2014:
“ Go and sin no more”.
                             (John 8:11)

The story of Susanna, a sure material for TV movie, a faithful and obedient daughter of Israel, is falsely framed by two dirty old men judges or elders and then sentenced to death. The event happens at the time of severe persecution of Jews and then of course God comes to rescue the innocent by inspiring young Daniel to speak up for the young woman that she is truly innocent and the judges are indeed wicked. The woman is saved and the judges are executed.

In the Gospel Jesus exposes the wickedness and hypocrisy of the woman caught in adultery. They themselves are equally guilty just as the woman was. So Jesus says, ‘let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her’. No one dared.

The God of mercy once again lets the woman walk
without meting punishment but urging her to walk away from sin. God does not find any delight in punishing but saving, mentoring, uplifting, picking up the fallen.

The innocent are protected by God who cry for help, the fallen are given a chance to walk innocently.

Lent is a time of grace for all , the innocent, the guilty, the sinner, the way-ward, the forgotten, the persecuted, the ill, the suffering, to draw closer to the God of mercy for peace, reconciliation, and joy.

God Bless you always!
Sincerely Yours,
Rev. Fr. Cyriac Chandy Mattathilanickal, MS

Wishing you and yours A Holy Lent!
Rev. Fr. Tom Puthusseril, M.S.
