A Word from the Shrine Directors Fr. Gerard J. Boulanger, M.S. & Fr. Cyriac Mattathilanickal, M.S.
My dear brothers and sisters,
We welcome the beautiful month of October with the
feast of Guardian Angels. Angels do watch over us all the time and that shows
how much God cares and loves us personally.
We give thanks to God for the new shepherd of our
Diocese of Fall River, His Excellency Bishop Edgar Moreira da
Cunha, S. D.V. who visited the Shrine and celebrated
the Mass for the Portuguese pilgrimage on September 28, 2014 . We were touched by his simplicity, humility, and
love for the pilgrims. We wish him many
more years of faith-filled ministry.
The Extra Ordinary Synod on Family will be held in Rome
On October 12, 2014 we will mark the Golden Jubilee of the Retreat Center 10 am
followed by an invitation only dinner. We are grateful to the many priests,
brothers, sisters, lay faithful who served in the retreat and renewal
ministries of the Shrine for the past 50 years. The retreat center is
undergoing renovation of its facilities so that it continues to serve the
faithful as a haven of peace and renewal.
On October 7, 2014 we observe the feast of Our Lady of Holy Rosary. Mary
at La Salette asked the children “Do you pray well?” and they said, “No we
don’t”. Mary told them “Pray at least an Our Father and Hail Mary, when you
can, say more” urging us to recite the rosary. As you pray the rosary please
pray for the intention of those Christians who are being persecuted in Syria Iraq
I would like to invite everyone to take part in the
Annual Lay Fast for Priests organized by Anna Rae Kelly and the team. A simple
yet profoundly inspiring movement that has now attracted people from over 50
countries registered to fast on October 18, 2014 for priests all over the world
that they may serve the Church faithfully, lovingly and generously.
Congratulations to Anna Rae Kelly who has been a volunteer and retreat
facilitator at the Shrine for several years now. Thank you for your beautiful
ministry.
As we enjoy the fall weather may we find time to
appreciate the creation in it’s beauty and learn to respect and reverence the
cosmos for all of creation is imbued with the presence of God.
